Greetings, MW reader! Here’s another brief BiMonthly for you, covering the following:
- The Oath Keepers’ convictions are now fully erased
- Jake Lang’s anti-Muslim road show continues
- Other smaller items, including a loser sheriff and Boogaloo trying to make fetch happen
If you’d like to read the previous BiMonthly, it’s available here:
Most Oath Keepers Convictions Officially Erased
As discussed in the previous MW BiMonthly, Kelly had dismissed the Proud Boys sedition convictions, and the Oath Keepers cases were imminently facing similar rulings. On August 4, Judge Amit Mehta officially made his ruling, granting the government’s request to dismiss the superseding indictment with prejudice, so the charges can’t be refiled. Stewart Rhodes, Kelly Meggs, Kenneth Harrelson, Jessica Watkins, Roberto Minuta, Joseph Hackett, David Moerschel and Edward Vallejo are all covered, but Joshua James and Brian Ulrich (who pleaded guilty to seditious conspiracy and cooperated) still hold their convictions. Those who elected to work with the DOJ retain their criminal record, whereas those who refused to do so now face ever fewer consequences. Mehta made his displeasure clear, writing that he strongly disagreed with the DOJ’s decision while concluding that the prosecutors had the authority to drop the cases.
Rhodes posted a victory note from Dallas on the Oath Keepers site dated August 5. He claims he and his co-defendants are “legally restored to all our rights as citizens,” and says he’s still resolved to rebuild the group. The page is still pushing their membership drive, which seems to continue to flop despite his legal windfalls.
Jake Lang’s Racist Eras Tour Continues
Everyone’s least favorite provocateur hit up several locations as part of his “Christian Crusaders” movement in the last two months:
- Aug 18, Dearborn, MI: Before his visit, Lang told the Detroit News he’d bring “20 armed men” as private security, likely prompting city officials to move the meeting he was showing up to disrupt. Lang ripped up a Qur’an during the meeting.
- Aug 22, Minneapolis: Lang organized a rally following the Shiloh Hendrix case. Both of Lang’s group’s vehicles drove onto the sidewalk toward a crowd (he never got out of his car). Lang and three others in his car were arrested for probable cause to riot after a stop in Bloomington (no felony charges were filed).
- Sept 11, NYC: At a protest he organized as a “Great CRUSADE” against Mayor Mamdani a few blocks from the Ground Zero ceremony, about 100 people joined Lang’s march. Seven Nazis in swastika armbands showed up to counter-protest Lang, holding a sign reading “Jake Lang is a Jew.”
- Oct 4, Bridgeview, IL: Lang held a “Peaceful Crusader Rally” against the annual Palestine Fest in the town, to which hundreds came to counter-protest.
Lang hasn’t had much of an inroads into the traditional Patriot Movement but seems to have some ability to mobilize some fairly unstable individuals. Many of these events have resulted in scuffles and arrests, and Lang has only rarely appeared without substantial local pushback.
Everything Else
At oral argument on August 24, the California Supreme Court justices seemed skeptical that Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco had acted within his authority when he seized more than 650,000 ballots in March from the county’s November 2025 special election. He said he’d comply if ordered to return the ballots but suggested the investigation would continue anyway. On September 24, the court ruled unanimously that he broke the law and created “a substantial risk to election integrity.” He has to return the ballots and stop handling them. Bonta says Bianco will face “legal consequences.”
Bobby Michael Dennis, a self-described sovereign citizen, faces attempted capital murder charges for shooting a Jacksonville, Texas, police officer in November 2025. At an earlier arraignment, he told the court that “all judges have been dissolved under President Donald Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi”, calling the court an illegal government. On August 5, he was found competent to stand trial after a second evaluation, with the attorney saying the report described him as difficult to communicate with, not due to mental illness but due to his rigid sovereign citizen beliefs. Dennis, who disrupted his IRL competency hearing on August 5, was arraigned over Zoom from the county jail on August 7, during which court officials had to mute him because he kept talking loudly. Jury selection is set for January 19.
On September 28, a small group of Boogaloo adherents showed up at the Pennsylvania Capitol in Harrisburg to voice their opposition to any gun regulations and affirm their view that the Boogaloo “never left”. The streamer who posted the footage — who will go unnamed here to avoid diverting views to the platforming happening through their work — asked each of the three attendees if they liked the streamer’s ‘docuseries’ on the Boogaloo, and all three men responded affirmatively. The men also spent a lot of time disparaging Mike Dunn, who is central to the narrative of the streamer’s docuseries as a young man groomed by the FBI to secretly become a key informant.
